A full update on Future Travel Experience’s (FTE) plans for the remainder of 2020 and beyond, including new products Virtual Expo 365 & FTE Creative.

Dear friends and colleagues,

I write today to share an update on Future Travel Experience’s (FTE) plans for the remainder of 2020 and beyond.

The imminent roll-out of vaccines is great news for air transport, but the coronavirus pandemic is going to impact the way we live, and do business within our industry for a long time to come, and we all have to adapt to that reality. Here at FTE, we were the first to embrace virtual events to bring the sector together in new and exciting ways, and our upcoming Virtual Expo has received a response like no other event since we launched FTE 15 years ago. Over 265 airlines and airports from every corner of the world have already registered, and we are very proud and excited to share this incredible undertaking by our staff, partners, Advisory Board membersspeakers and exhibitors on 8 and 9 December. If you have not yet registered, please do so today here – you will not want to miss this landmark event, as this recently-launched interactive Show e-Preview highlights.

New for 2021: Virtual Expo 365 & FTE Creative

The truth is traditional in-person events, and face-to-face meetings in offices, will not return with any great conviction until towards the end of 2021. In the meantime, the industry needs new ways to connect continuously en masse, and it is now time for everyone to think more creatively about how to leverage the power of digital to showcase their businesses, and engage with the world from here on out.

With this in mind, I am delighted to announce that we will launch Virtual Expo 365 – a vast online content hub and supplier exhibition, which will be accessible 24/7 throughout the year. With dedicated Airport and Inflight zones, Virtual Expo 365 will be free to visit from early March 2021. The platform will also host 12 live days a year, during which we will host new conference sessions, and when exhibitors and attendees will be able to engage with one another in a live virtual environment. Our exhibitors will be able to update their content continuously, and we will give our ecosystem endless good reasons to come back again and again to learn, network and connect through this powerful platform.

We also see that many companies are struggling to showcase their capabilities, launch new products, deliver training & drive innovation and prototyping as effectively as they would like to in this new world, so we are launching FTE Creative to help solve this problem. This full service agency will offer companies an outstanding range of digital services to help them showcase their products and services as effectively and interactively as possible. From creating private sales lounges or auditoriums that can be leveraged at virtual trade shows or for private customer meetings or launches, through to using technologies like VR, AR, XR and 360-degree content to deliver cutting-edge, awe-inspiring work or training programmes, we will be your one-stop digital creative agency to ensure your capabilities, or platforms for engagement in-house or externally, can be realised just as well digitally as they have been through traditional methods previously. We are working with a selection of talented partners, such as Neutral Digital, to deliver these capabilities, and we will have an FTE Creative digital showroom live at Virtual Expo next month so you can see for yourselves the quality of the work, and virtual environments, that we can create to support new industry needs going forward.

In-person event update: FTE Global+, FTE Ancillary+, FTE APEX Asia Expo+

Our much-loved in-person FTE events will certainly be back. We had hoped to host our postponed Asia show in February but that is no longer realistically possible, so that event will now revert back to its traditional time slot in November. Similarly, our FTE Ancillary show scheduled for Dublin in June, will now be pushed back and co-located with FTE Global in September. So, the schedule for our 2021 in-person events is as follows:

It will be a fresh start for our traditional in-person events next year and to reflect this we are also introducing a brand-new hybrid event concept. All of our in-person shows will combine the very best of in-person events with online participation for those who are unable to physically attend, all connected and enabled by our new FTE Virtual Expo 365 platform. This hybrid approach will create unrivalled audiences comprising thousands of the industry’s thought leaders and decision-makers for every event.

We all must innovate our way out of this predicament

I recently delivered a keynote at the opening of the AVIATIONVSCOVID19 innovation challenge and I shared a quote by Steve Jobs after he returned to Apple after a 12-year absence when the company was close to bankruptcy. He said: “The cure for Apple is not cost-cutting; the cure for Apple is to innovate its way out of its current predicament.” We all know what happened next. Aviation must think this way too, and we all have to play our part in creating a new industry mindset and model to drive the recovery and our own organisations’ individual success.

I hope you can take some inspiration from these efforts and words, and that we can be of use to your organisation going forward, with next month’s FTE APEX Virtual Expo being the next stop on your calendar of engagements with us.

Good luck, stay safe and please reach out to me if you would like to learn more about any of the points I have outlined in my message above.

All the best,
