Heathrow is marking its 80th anniversary with a first-of-its-kind Top Trumps pack celebrating its global destination network, giving passengers a fun, interactive way to explore routes and pass the time before take-off.

Summary:

  • Heathrow has launched a first-of-its-kind Top Trumps pack celebrating its global route network as part of its 80th anniversary.
  • The exclusive game showcases popular destinations, route data and unique Heathrow connectivity, offering passengers an engaging pre-travel experience.
  • Available across all four terminals, the collectible pack reinforces Heathrow’s focus on enhancing the passenger journey through innovative retail and engagement.

Heathrow – a Corporate Partner of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub – has released a brand-new, first-of-its-kind pack of Top Trumps, giving passengers a fun way to explore the airport’s most popular and far-reaching destinations before they even leave the ground.

Launched as part of Heathrow’s 80th birthday celebrations, the game is available exclusively at the airport, in vending machines and stores across all four terminals.

The pack celebrates Heathrow’s global connectivity, shining a spotlight on some of the most popular destinations currently on offer at the world’s most connected airport – from domestic favourites like Edinburgh to long-haul icons including New York, Santiago and Mexico City.

“Heathrow Top Trumps is a first for us, created exclusively for our passengers as we mark our 80th year,” said Fraser Brown, Retail Director, Heathrow. “It’s a unique, nostalgic keepsake, an interesting way to explore some of our most popular destinations, and a fun way to pass the time – whether at the airport, on the plane or on holiday.”

Each card brings a destination to life through fun facts and key stats, including population, flight time and distance from Heathrow and number of daily departures. The game allows players to learn about – and compete over – the routes that connect millions of passengers to the world every year.

The deck showcases aerial shots of each destination, taken from a birds-eye view to simulate flying into the destination from Heathrow. Each card also features a unique ‘visited’ tick box, so families can keep track of all the destinations they visit.

At the heart of the pack is New York, crowned this edition’s ‘Top Trump’ for being Heathrow’s most popular destination ever. The pack’s cover features a beautiful image of Mount Fuji, capturing the spirit of global exploration and the breadth of destinations Heathrow serves.

The game also highlights routes unique to Heathrow, including direct services to Santiago and Mexico City – routes which are not available non-stop from anywhere else in the UK.

“Top Trumps has been a family favourite for almost 50 years,” said Tom Liddell, Chief Executive and Marketing Officer, Winning Moves UK. “Those that grew up in the 1970s and 80s will remember there were several packs around planes and flight, so to make a customised pack to celebrate Heathrow’s 80th anniversary feels like we’re coming home!”
