Aberdeen International Airport is taking its passenger experience transformation to the next level, with £2.5 million of investment bringing expanded retail and dining facilities to the terminal ahead of summer 2027.

Summary:

  • Aberdeen International Airport is investing £2.5 million in its ABZ Reimagined programme to transform the passenger experience ahead of summer 2027.
  • New retail, food and beverage facilities will deliver more choice, increased seating and a more spacious, modern post-security environment.
  • The latest phase builds on Aberdeen’s partnership with Portland Design to reshape the airport’s retail proposition and commercial spaces.

Aberdeen International Airport has unveiled the next phase of its £2.5 million ABZ Reimagined programme, with significant enhancements to its retail and food and beverage offering set to be delivered ahead of summer 2027.

The improvements represent the latest milestone in the airport’s wider transformation plans and will create a more spacious, modern and passenger-focused terminal experience. Passengers will benefit from expanded retail facilities, increased restaurant seating and an enhanced coffee offering, providing greater choice and improved comfort before travel.

As part of the programme, the airport’s WHSmith and InMotion post-security stores will be combined into one extended unit, creating additional retail space and an improved shopping environment. Restaurant facilities will also be expanded, offering more seating capacity and greater flexibility for passengers looking to dine and relax before their flight.

The enhancements form part of a wider investment programme designed to transform the customer experience at Aberdeen International Airport and support the evolving needs of passengers travelling through the terminal.

The next phase follows the appointment of strategic design consultancy Portland Design earlier this year to help shape the future of the airport’s retail proposition. Working in partnership with the airport, Portland developed a comprehensive set of Retail Design Guidelines that are now helping to inform the transformation of commercial spaces across the terminal.

Passengers will begin to see the transformation take shape as work progresses over the coming months, with improvements being delivered in phases ahead of summer 2027.

“ABZ Reimagined is all about creating a modern airport experience that reflects the ambitions of the north-east of Scotland and meets the expectations of today’s travellers,” said Craig Norton, Head of Retail and Development, AGS Airports. “These latest improvements represent another important milestone in that journey and will deliver tangible benefits for the millions of passengers who travel through Aberdeen International Airport each year. From enhanced retail facilities and expanded dining space to an improved coffee offering, we’re investing in the areas that matter most to our passengers. As work continues, customers will begin to see the transformation taking shape throughout the terminal. This investment demonstrates our commitment to continually improving the passenger experience while strengthening the airport’s role as a key gateway for the region.”
